IZAKAYA LITTLE TOKYO RESTAURANT
4704 Veterans Blvd. Suite 101
Metairie, LA 70006
The owners of the Little Tokyo restaurants in New Orleans brand the location on Vets, between Clearview and Transcontinental in #themetrys as catering to “young crowds”. If the posters of Mario and Naruto on the walls aren’t a giveaway, the menu will certainly tip their hand. This isn’t your typical suburban sushi joint, but rather a place that offers a broad range of Japanese dishes.
Sushi, of course! Mrs. YatPundit had chicken and fried rice from the teppan grill, but also wanted a little sushi. She’s not terribly adventurous, so a crunchy roll filled the bill. Notice that the roll is sliced into eight pieces rather than six. Thinner, and stretches a bit further when sharing, which are things important to a younger crowd.
I was in a noodle mood, so Chicken Yakisoba for me. Hot off the grill, tasty, and a HUGE portion. Our server, a charming young lady, even brought a little condiment dish with Sriracha sauce, always good for a dish with a lot of veggies.
I’m a beer person with Japanese food more so than a sake person (unless others prefer sake, then bring it!), so I had a Sapporo Black Label Draft. Or two. 🙂
We go to Little Tokyo more than any other sushi place around. Don’t get me wrong, I like a number of other places, but this one has an atmosphere I love, lighting that’s just right, and food that’s wonderful. I’d never noticed this sign by the register, though. They’re open until 2am! That’s awesome.
